Hungry in the Morning : Best Places To Get Breakfast in East London
Nothing beats a good Breakfast to set you up for the day ahead. Few of us have time in today’s busy world to grab more than a cup of tea and a slice of toast as we rush out the door to catch the bus or train. Fortunately, an industry has grown up in London that caters for all tastes and at all hours. Here are some suggestions for eateries based in East London to satisfy those early morning hunger pangs.
159 Brick Lane London E1 6SB
This has been situated in the heart of the East End since it opened at its current location in 1976. It is open 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. The rumour is that the key to the door has been lost hence it never closes.
They are rightly known for their Bagels, especially the salt beef Bagel (with pickle and a dollop of hot mustard), but serve fast food, vegetarian, British and kosher menus.
Fantastic!!! Salt beef, pickle, mustard, simple yet delicious!! The beef is so tender, flavoursome, the mustard and pickles combining with the beef is really really good. My only problem was I only had 1, should’ve had 2!!!!
7 Boundary Street London E2 7JE
Quite deservedly this establishment has an excellent reputation for its dining experience no matter whether it is breakfast, lunch or dinner you are after.
The breakfast menu fuses the tastes of India with those of the traditional English breakfast. The ‘Big Bombay’ is enough to set anyone up for the day with, amongst other ingredients, bacon, tomatoes, pork sausages and masala baked beans. If you are not a fan of the traditional English breakfast there is an extensive choice of vegetarian options.
Great venue, service and atmosphere. Perfect food for breakfast With a bit of spice on a Sunday morning. Can’t wait to go back! Dishoom
The Hoxton Grill
81 Great Eastern Street London EC2A 3HW
Situated in the heart of Shoreditch this American themed restaurant caters for the full range of meals from early morning to late evening. It is all very casual, as you would expect from an American inspired restaurant. There is also a good range of vegetarian and gluten free options to cater for all tastes.
Such a lovely spot. Their breakfast menu is amazing (get the avo toast, it’s the best I have had in london) and I will be back to try some of their grill options (steak, chicken, salmon). OH and the mac and cheese, to die for. Thank you! The Hoxton Grill
38 Amhurst Road London E8 1JN
This might be what you call a ‘greasy spoon’ but an excellent greasy spoon. It gets a more than a fair amount of trade from a nationally known hotel over the road. The portions are generous, the service is quick and where can you get a full English plus tea or coffee for a little over a fiver?
We had breakfast in this lovely cafe – I had the vegetarian breakfast and my husband had the Mess’s breakfast. I thought it would be strange having a roasted pepper with breakfast but it really worked and the entire breakfast was delicious – the mushrooms were fresh and beautifully cooked and the fried potatoes were crispy and hot! Both breakfasts came with a hot drink and toast at a very reasonable price. All in all a very lovely breakfast!
180 Forest Lane London E7 9BB
Perhaps not the most extensive menu you will ever encounter but certainly of a high quality. As the name might indicate, it has a very friendly family environment which is popular with the locals. The menu is Spanish influenced.
Spanish breakfast, custard tarts and nice cakes
Spanish breakfast is my favourite, with pancetta added to the tomatoes and garlic on lovely bread. Great custard tarts and other cakes and pastries too. Small and sociable inside. Familia Cafe
